“Meaning is in the mind of the beholder”

My mission is to create meaningful experiences for people, whether they are customers, clients, colleagues, or students. I believe that real value comes from putting human values in the center of designing products, services and environments.

I am a lecturer and researcher at the School of Communication, Media and Information Technology at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, and independent consultant.

As lecturer I teach how emerging technologies and media can be used in designing meaningful (brand) experiences. I coordinate the minor Brands and Concepts in a World of Pervasive Technology and the study programmes Human Values, Research for Design, Envisioning Information and Creative Research Tools. I’ve initiated organisational developments such as an Honours Programme for our excellent students in order to coach our talent to the highest extent.

As researcher at the research group Human Centered ICT, my topic of interest is how to design for meaningful technology, in particular Meaningful Urban Design that was launched in a first workshop To Work! and continued in a second workshop Rotterdam Open Data. I am establishing my PhD at Delft University with my research “Designing for Meaningful Technology”.
